Genuine Materials – Lin Câblé Thread & Riri Zipper
When crafting a luxury bag, materials, handle cores, and edge paint all play a role.
But if we had to choose the two most critical components, they would be:
1. Thread
2. Zippers
Let’s start with the thread.
1. Lin Câblé Linen Thread – The Standard for Luxury
Hermès exclusively uses Lin Câblé thread for their bag production.
Lin Câblé is a French brand known for its vibrant colors and exceptional quality.
"Lin" = Linen (a natural fiber made from the flax plant)
"Câblé" = Twisted structure for durability
Linen is one of the oldest fibers in human history.
And is classified as a natural thread
because it is derived from plant fibers.
Unlike synthetic threads, natural linen threads are much harder to produce,
take longer to manufacture, and have a rougher surface texture.
(For reference: Natural thread costs up to 10 times more than synthetic thread.)
A single bundle of Lin Câblé thread costs around $25 USD,
and a full set of 14 bundles costs approximately $320 USD.
Because of the high price,
many suppliers even sell it in small portions by the meter.
Natural threads have several drawbacks compared to
synthetic threads like Vinymo or Serafil.
1. Lower tensile strength – Not as strong as synthetic threads
2. Rough texture – More friction during stitching
3. Requires waxing before stitching – More preparation time
4. Complicated finishing process – Requires careful sealing after sewing
So why does Hermès, the pinnacle of luxury, insist on using Lin Câblé?
Because synthetic thread simply cannot replicate the depth,
richness, and natural elegance of Lin Câblé’s colors.
If a company doesn’t care about the quality of their thread,
they will never be able to produce a true luxury product.
Small details matter.
A brand that prioritizes even the smallest components
without compromise is the kind of brand that can create a truly flawless bag.
At Thierry Studio, we never compromise on these details.
Just like Hermès, we use Lin Câblé thread in all our products.

Bonus: How to Identify Real vs. Fake Thread
For non-experts, it's almost impossible to distinguish
natural thread from synthetic thread just by looking at a bag’s stitching.
However, there’s an easy way to tell them apart:
🔥 Burn Test 🔥
- Natural thread (Lin Câblé) → Burns with white smoke and turns to fine ash.
- Synthetic thread (Polyester-based) → Burns with black smoke and leaves behind melted residue, like plastic.
Also, if you unravel Lin Câblé thread,
you’ll see that it consists of three strands,
each made up of three thinner strands
making a total of nine interwoven fibers.
2. Riri Zippers – The Hermès of Zippers
Riri zippers are often called the
Hermès, Ferrari, and Lamborghini of zippers.
Simply put they are the best zippers in the world,
used only by the highest-end luxury brands.
What makes Riri zippers special?
1. Exceptionally smooth operation
2. Unmatched durability and strength
3. A distinct, refined tooth pattern
At first glance, all zipper teeth may look the same.
But just like Lin Câblé thread, these small differences in structure and
design can completely change the feel and aesthetic of the final product.
That’s why Thierry Studio, just like Hermès,
exclusively uses authentic Riri zippers.

Beware of Fake Riri Zippers
The counterfeit zipper market is full of fake Riri zippers,
especially ones where only the pull tab is engraved with the Riri logo while
the actual zipper is not genuine.
We’ll be posting a detailed comparison of real vs. fake Riri zippers soon!
